Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Philippians 4:8
When I was a little girl, my brother and I loved playing in my grandpa’s old Model T. We’d pretend to drive, and our imaginations would take us to amazing places. Next to the old automobile was a patch of poppies. They were like orange and red fire, and they were breathtaking! Every year, they’d bloom with all their glory. Remember the poppy scene in The Wizard of Oz? That’s exactly what it was like…at least to my little girl’s imagination. Have you heard the quote, “Beneath the sun’s embrace, the poppy finds its radiant purpose”? It's true that this little patch of beauties was definitely radiant!
When we experience the Son of God’s embrace, we’re radiant, alive, and content. Beauty and awe surround us. Creation is glorious! I think of Moses when he saw God face to face and how his face glowed. He was radiant! It’s hard to keep dwelling on what we don’t like when we’re constantly thinking about what we love about God. The words we think or say about ourselves and others will change when we focus on God instead of what we don’t find lovely.
When we shift our focus from ourselves to God, we will find ourselves praising, rejoicing, and worshipping Him! We will radiate His presence!
